I am seeking connection. I believe everybody is. The human condition is a lonely one, even with all the means of communication that we have developed, and it is hard enough to know ourselves let alone another individual. New York Remains has become the breadcrumb trail of my existence. Each of the 206 canvases, all painted from vertebrae found in New York City, are left behind for others to find, with the hopes of sharing an experience as two stories cross paths. Vertebrae, the bones in the spinal column, connect the activity of the brain to the actions of the body. Vertebrae are the communication system that keep life cohesive. New York Remains act as a connection to this environment I live in and a symbol of the history that has accumulated here. They become a message as they are found by others, a message of survival, of history, and of connection.
ABOUT THE SERIES
VERTEBRAE
A selection of the 206 canvases painted. Each vertebrae was collected from New York City, found in the parks, subways, and streets, and memorialized in my home studio. The total number in the series, 206, refers to a complete human skeleton.

REMAINS
Scattered across the city landscape, each miniature canvas brings beauty to an unexpected place, a moment of connection and contemplation within the bustling city.
